The Company
For the second consecutive year, Embotelladora Andina developed its Report on Sustainability, a clear sign that the performance and impact of our business in social, economic, and environmental areas are significantly relevant for business management.
As a company, we have prioritized three key factors which form part of our sustainability strategy: People, Environment and Neighboring Communities, which go hand in hand with the pillars that support our sustainability model: Excellence, Commitment and Efficiency.
We have been dedicated to implement action plans for each of the variables involving all management areas in the three markets where we operate.
People
We have set objectives, which allow the performance of people to align with our strategic goals, and objectives. In this regard, we have worked in managing both Corporate Culture and Organizational Environment.
We created the Human Resources & CSR corporate division and we performed an environmental survey of all our operations, which had a more than 92% response rate. Our short-term challenge is to implement action plans in those areas where organizational climate improvement is required. During 2009, we focused on Corporate Culture and created the campaign “That is our Style” (In Spanish: ESE es nuestro estilo, where ESE stands for Excellence, Sustainability, and Efficiency-the main purpose of the campaign was to spread the pillars of our activities) which was implemented in all three operations.
Occupational Safety and Health of our employees has also been another relevant aspect. In this area, injury rate has remained stable. However, the rates of claims and severity held a downward trend during the last three years.
Furthermore, training was a focal point this year since we concentrated on different programs, opportunities for training and development involving all of our employees.
Care of the Environment
We created the area of Quality, Safety, and Environment, to ensure environmental performance improvement of each operating area of the Company. We reinforced our actions in the efficient use of water and energy.
For the purpose of optimizing water consumption and minimizing the loss of this resource, different kinds of projects were carried out at each of the operations. Concerning energy, the Company carried out investments in order to optimize the use of energy, decrease environmental impact and ensure availability for its own needs.
We are committed to reducing generation of residues and are promoting the recycling of 100% percent of the materials used or generated by our processes. All of our operations count with treatment systems for liquid residues that re-incorporate the water used to natural channels, ensuring the quality of this resource and respecting biodiversity.
Neighboring Communities
We have continued developing four specific areas: Education and Entrepreneurship; Sports and Wellness; Social Insertion and Social Aid; and Environmental Care. Some of the projects worth mentioning are the "Plant Tours" in Brazil and Chile where we received over 12 thousand children and adults during the year. In Chile, we also developed aiding campaigns for young children of Monseñor Tapia de La Pintana Daycare, delivering 600 liters of milk. We also helped to meet the basic needs of 70 girls at Los Girasoles Coanil Home (for intellectually challenged children) finishing off the year bringing them Christmas presents. In Argentina, the "EDASA solidarity" program stood out for its mission to bring the magic of Coca-Cola close to hospitals, soup kitchens, and welfare homes for a chance of living and giving a special moment.
Other relevant efforts are directly related to our customers. "Strengthening our customers’ network" project contributed business management tools to over 5,000 clients trained at Andina’s Client Development Centers.
Awards and Achievements
In Argentina, the National Award for Quality Foundation that promotes excellence in the development of processes and products in that country, granted us the 2009 National Award for Quality, which was handed by the president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
In Brazil, we achieved first and second place in terms of Work Security, and we achieved an award for good practices in the production of Coca-Cola.
